Allergen labeling:

Tufts Dining labels all food served on campus with the top nine allergens: milk, egg, peanut, tree nut, soy, gluten/wheat, shellfish, fish, sesame

  • All ingredients and allergens for each dish are listed on a nutrition card at the serving line
  • All items served by Tufts Dining that contain allergy information about the facility or manufacturing process will be included in the ingredients list and the item will be marked with those allergens.
  • All items containing peanuts or tree nuts will include this in the name of the recipe eg. “Cous Cous with Almonds and Feta”
  • Coconut is labeled separately from Tree Nuts. Coconut is served at All9Free and Fresh at Carmichael.
  • Digital menu signage in all dining units lists allergen information
  • Allergen and ingredient information is also available on the Tufts Dining Online Menu up to two weeks in advance. This online menu can be filtered to exclude all labeled allergens.
  • Managers are always available to help students identify safe meal options and to answer any questions to ensure that students can eat full, nutritious meals that avoid allergens and/or meet dietary restrictions.
  • Have an allergy outside the top nine? All ingredient information is available online and on the nutrition card on each serving line. If you need more information or would like help identifying your allergen, please make an appointment with the Tufts Dining Dietitian.

Alternative Meal Program

Tufts Dining works with the StAAR Center to offer accommodations to students who may require additional support to meet their dietary needs. The Alternative Meal Program allows students with severe food allergies to pre-order custom meals that are prepared and packaged separately. This program works with your existing meal plan and is available at both Dewick-MacPhie and Fresh at Carmichael Dining Centers. Students may use this as frequently as needed. Students who feel they would benefit from this program or require additional consideration should contact the StAAR Center.
