Can I withdraw my JumboCash?

No—once deposited, JumboCash cannot be withdrawn unless you graduate from, permanently withdraw from, or terminate employment with the university. Learn more about closing your JumboCash account.

Can I purchase a debit plan for food only?

Yes, students can purchase Meal Money, which provides debit funds for food purchases only. Students can also pay for food at all campus locations using JumboCash.

When I do laundry or use vending machines, I see a balance of only $20 or less—what happened to my JumboCash?

Because laundry and vending machines are unattended purchases, we limit the amount you can use each day to $20 in order to protect your funds. So, when you do your laundry or use a vending machine, the displayed balance will be $20 or less. No worries though; the rest of the funds are still in your JumboCash account.

When I print or copy, I see a balance of only $100 or less—what happened to my JumboCash?

Because printing and copying in the campus libraries and computer centers are unattended purchases, we limit the amount you can use each day to $100 in order to protect your funds. So, when you print or copy, the displayed balance will be $100 or less. No worries though; the rest of the funds are still in your JumboCash account.

Is there anything I can’t buy with my JumboCash?

JumboCash may not be used to purchase alcohol, tobacco, stored-value gift cards, lottery tickets, firearms or obscene materials.

Can I use my meal plan for guests?

Students on all meal plans may use their meal plan or their JumboCash to pay for guests—as long as Tufts' students accompany their guests.

The Premium Meal Plan includes four guest meals per semester. With any other meal plan, students may pay for guests by deducting a regular meal from their plan for each guest.

Guests can also pay in cash. See our guest dining rates for more information.

Parents of Tufts students eat for free at Carmichael and Dewick-MacPhie Dining Centers when joining their student who is on a meal plan.

Are students required to enroll in a meal plan?

All first-year and second-year students are required to live on campus and enroll in a meal plan based on academic standing. First-year students must enroll in the Premium Meal Plan.

Second-year students and transfer students living on campus in non-exempt housing have the option to enroll in the Premium Meal Plan, the 220 Meal Plan, or the 160 Meal Plan.

Juniors, seniors, and graduate students may enroll in any of our six meal plans but are not required to.

See Student Meal Plans & Rates to determine which meal plan is best for you.

What does the Premium Meal Plan’s “multiple-access” mean?

Students on the Premium Meal Plan have total flexibility to go in and out of Carmichael Dining Center and Dewick-MacPhie Dining Center as many times a day as desired. In other words, whenever you’re hungry or thirsty, you can eat a meal or grab a quick drink or snack at Carmichael or Dewick-MacPhie.

Premium Meal Plan students may prefer to have takeout at Hodgdon Food-on-the-Run or Pax et Lox Glatt Kosher Deli during a meal period (up to three times a day) instead of going to Carmichael or Dewick-MacPhie Dining Centers during that same period. Students who go to Pax et Lox can choose to bring their meal into Carmichael or Dewick-MacPhie.

Are there any late-night dining options?

There sure are! If you're still hungry after 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, head over to Carmichael Dining Center or Commons Marketplace between for late-night dining until 1 a.m. Check out our late-night menus to see what's cooking!

What happens to unused meals at the end of the term?

Unused meals expire at the end of each term. Meals can’t be carried forward from one term to the next, so use them up! See our Use Meals Don’t Lose Meals (PDF) chart to help you determine what your average meal balance should be each week in order to use all your meals by the end of the term.
